You're right Susan - we still know so little about the sea. And it is incredible how often new creatures are discovered. Even large creatures like the Colossal Squid!

This wonderful squid AGAIN shows us how little we really know about the ocean and what dwells there! What about the 95% still unexplored - what shall we find there? I can't wait!

Hi Thomas and Lee
We are planning to have the squid on display later in the year, around December.

It takes a while to get everything developed and organised for an exhibition like this and we are going to be really busy over the next couple of months.

So sorry Thomas - you won't be able to see it in early October, but I hope you can get to Wellington to see the colossal squid another time.

Here's a link to a webpage which describes the larvae of some closely related cranchid squids (seriously weird squids)and shows the structure of the eye - the nerve running from the rear of the eye in the bottom image above is the optic nerve.

It has been a privilege and a pleasure to able able to be involved with Te Papa's Whales Tohora Exhibition. Along with other's at Human Dynamo Modelmaking Ltd I appreciate the opportunity of creating the specimen models of Whales and Dolphins also the big Blue Whales heart that children could crawl into. The Proverb Tere tohora, tere tangata - Where whales journey, people follow. Is very appropriate as me interest in Whales continues.
Thank you Te Papa.
